JB Posey murder
Jesse B. (JB) Posey, 66, was murdered by unknown assailants inside his 4026 Cherry Fork Road home in Helenwood on May 25, 2005. He died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Robbery is believed to have been the motive for Mr. Posey's death. The murder weapon has been determined to be a .32-caliber handgun.
The Scott County Sheriff's Department continues the homicide investigation. It is believed that the person responsible for Mr. Posey's death was someone who was familiar to him. A $15,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.

Jarvis Maxey murder
Jarvis Maxey, 45, was murdered by an unknown assailant or assailants in December 2005. Investigators believe the murder occurred in Scott County.
Mr. Maxey's body was discovered near a cemetery in the Smokey Creek community of eastern Scott County in January 2006. One month earlier, a hunter discovered a severed head 40 miles away in Anderson County, near a Clinton industrial park. The body and head were linked by DNA testing at the University of Tennessee, and dental records were used to identify Mr. Maxey, a homeless man from Nashville.
The murderer, and a motive for the murder, remain unknown. The hands were severed from the body and were never recovered.
